Because I know you're wondering if I live off someone, or the government... or maybe you even assume I live on the other side of the law. None of the above.
On the first Monday after graduation I rode with a friend to my first summer job... Painting houses. You remember your first job.. no matter how hard, how hot, and how little the paycheck.. it was still sooooo cool to be getting a check. The birth of SPENDING IT ALL AND MORE soon follows.
Soon afterward I found my first "real" job for a national freight trucking company. I started on the dock and was eventually moved to an office position and transferred out of state. This coincided with the birth of my son and I felt like I needed to be in my hometown, thus ended career opportunity number one. In hindsight this was probably the job that if I ended up keeping would have solidly locked me into the rat race.
After some part time dead end manual labor work, and the aforementioned not very thought out marriage, I ended up with the US Postal Service as a letter carrier, a "job" that lasted 10 yrs. Career opportunity #2 swirls the bowl, because there is no way I could have worked another day at such a stressful, mind numbing task. This job actually made me unemployable.. more on what I mean later.
Since that time I've done mostly construction and contracting related work, mixed in with some investment activity involving real estate and construction.. ie, Fix-up/resell or rent properties.
And the spoiler alert is this, I still do construction type activities for money. Notice I did not say job, because really I don't have a job. I have an arrangement to complete a task and when that task is complete so is that job.
So maybe I'm not completely job-less. But I am job-less more than 50% of the time and quite possibly much more. I'm sure I'll give that more thought in a future post. For now, another HUMP-day doing what I want.. today that is chilling with my dogs, researching an auction I'd like to attend tomorrow. Yea... auctions... count on a few posts about them! FUN.. often profitable! Job? I guess if you don't like them it could seem like that, I love auctions.
